New set of Catalan translations

Walter Garcia-Fontes
I'm contributing a new set of Catalan translations:

http://puna.upf.edu/Catalan_May_10-2017.zip

There are some warnings that I haven't been able to suppress, some
related to "book snippets", of the type:

WARNING: Unable to find node 'slurs' in book snippets.

and some others related to some references that I haven't translated,
where I use "@rusernamed" for instance:

WARNING: Unable to find node 'Explicació dels contextos' in book notation.

but I have:
@rusernamed{Contexts explained,Explicació dels contextos}

Can it be related to the fact that there are two nodes with the same
name?

learning/fundamental.itely:@node Contexts explained
notation/changing-defaults.itely:@node Contexts explained

I'm getting this also for a similar case:
learning/tweaks.itely:@node The tweak command
notation/changing-defaults.itely:@node The tweak command

This is pretty common and a known bug of the build system. You'll find
lot of these in any Documentation/LANG/notation.splittexi.log

No, IIUC @node conflicts happen only if they belong to the same manual.
For example, in the french documentation these nodes have the same
names but there's no error in the respective logs:

[Documentation (master)]$ git grep -B2 "@translationof Contexts
explained" fr/*
fr/learning/fundamental.itely-@node Tout savoir sur les contextes
fr/learning/fundamental.itely-@subsection Tout savoir sur les contextes
fr/learning/fundamental.itely:@translationof Contexts explained

Thanks Federico, I will take a look and resubmit. These should be
conflicts with the current translation branch, right?

Yes, that's the branch translators are supposed to work on.

Re: New set of Catalan translations

Walter Garcia-Fontes
I took a look to my set of patches, and there is something I don't
understand.

As far as I can tell I did all the process right. I have my own
branch, created from the translation branch, I worked there. When I
finished I went back to the translation branch, updated it with
"pull", then when back to my branch, rebased it with translation
without errors, and generated my patches.

Since I was told that the patches could not be applied against the
translation branch I checked it myself. I cloned a new repository,
checked out the translation branch, and tried to apply my patches.

They fail because some lines in the patches have trailing
whitespaces, at 6 or 7 lines.

So I went back to my branch and checked if those trailing whitespaces
were in the corresponding files, but they are not there, but when I
generate my patches (with "git format-patch origin") they are
introduced. How come? I tried to erase the trailing whitespace
directly in the patches but they still fail to apply.

Thanks,

After doing a three-way merge of your first patch, I see that the patch
was based on this commit:

2c37265b2a7575157f95bbda12de17cbdfd2611b

instead of the last:

0966c6ab4c54cdb23bd318a7595782858eb06658

So you did not rebase against remote translation before making the
patch.

Yes, that's it. Well, I created a new set of patches after (I think) I
have a correctly rebased branch.

Now, when I ran "git format-patch origin" it created ten patches with
staff that was not created by me, only the last file contains my
patches, I checked again that my branch did not have errors when
compiling the documentation. It is here:

I'll check the patches tomorrow.

If you specify the remote branch:

git format-patch origin/translation

you should get one patch for any new commit in your local branch

I tried that, and I'm still getting the other 10 patches that I did
not create:

0001-Issue-5127-Implement-extra-offset-for-system-positio.patch
0002-Release-bump-VERSION_DEVEL.patch
0003-PO-update-template.patch

0009-Release-bump-VERSION.patch
0010-5133-Clean-up-GSoC-page-after-project-announcement.patch
0011-Doc-ca-Contributing-notation-staff.itely-and-correct.patch

My changes are only the last one.

Patch applied and pushed.

BTW, I found two warnings in the logs:
$ cat Documentation/ca/learning.splittexi.log
WARNING: Unable to find node 'Explicació dels contextos' in book

WARNING: Unable to find node 'L'ordre tweak' in book notation.

For the first, there's no longer such a node in the notation manual:

But I see this in line 1479 of the English file fundamental.itely in
the learning directory:

Notation Reference: @ruser{Contexts explained}.

And it is true that there is no node with this name in the notation
directory in English. So isn't this an error also in the English
documentation?

The second one, "The tweak command", is in line 2257 in the file
changing-defaults.itely of the notation directory of the English
documents, so I don't understand the warning for this case.

Why do you think so? What did you search?
@ruser{SOMETHING} is called @ref{SOMETHING} within the notation manual.

And the node exists:

$ git grep "Contexts explained" Documentation/notation
Documentation/notation/changing-defaults.itely:* Contexts explained::
Documentation/notation/changing-defaults.itely:@node Contexts explained
Documentation/notation/changing-defaults.itely:@subsection Contexts

Documentation/notation/changing-defaults.itely:@ref{Contexts explained},
Documentation/notation/vocal.itely:@code{Lyrics} context, see
@ref{Contexts explained}.
Documentation/notation/vocal.itely:@ref{Contexts explained},

@rusernamed within the notation manual is not possible. It's either a
@ref or @rlearning.
In this case it's @ref

You can see the error in action here:
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/learning/tweaking-methods.ca.html#the-single-prefix

scroll up a bit and you'll see a link:

Referència de la notació: L’ordre tweak.

which brings to a wrong URL:
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/notation/l_0027ordre-tweak

It's probably a bug with the translation infrastructure, already
reported and discussed some time ago. But do not expect any fix :-)

BTW, I would avoid the use of the named macro. Why do you use it so
much?

Actually you got it right at the beginning of this thread :-)
The errors in the log depends on what you describe above.

As a workaround, in the italian translation I used two different node
names in my translation, in order to avoid the conflict:

$ git grep -B2 "Contexts explained" Documentation/it/
Documentation/it/learning/fundamental.itely-@node I contesti
Documentation/it/learning/fundamental.itely-@subsection I contesti
Documentation/it/learning/fundamental.itely:@translationof Contexts
explained
--
Documentation/it/notation/changing-defaults.itely-@node Tutto sui
contesti
Documentation/it/notation/changing-defaults.itely-@subsection Tutto sui
contesti
Documentation/it/notation/changing-defaults.itely:@translationof
Contexts explained

But we should probably change one of the english node names.

Almost 5 years ago I tried to understand this bug:

I take it back. See this thread:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-lilypond/2014-12/msg00040.html

You'll solve the problem by using the workaround I mentioned in my
previous email.

Yes, sorry, I did exactly that, I search for the string but thought it
could not be found in the English notation directory.

I have $rusernamed in the learning manual, not in the notation, that
one is generating the warning.

I thought this was the recommended way of doing the cross-citations
for nodes which were not yet translated.

I also find it convenient once I translated them to find them and
substitute it for the appropriate "@ref" or "ruser" or whatever
appropriate.

I understand I could also use just "@ref" (or "ruser",...)  and point
to the English node, but I find it harder to find these nodes later
when I translate the corresponding node, searching for the named macro
seems easier.

Look this:

Documentation/ca/notation/rhythms.itely:331:@rusernamed{The tweak
command,L'ordre tweak},

it's a link from a file in notation manual to a node in the same
notation manual.
I guess that you used it to be able to translate it, because you cannot
use @refnamed

It's not recommended, it's up to translators.
I prefer leaving it in english, so the user knows that he's going to
visit an english page. Also, it's a way to find visually the links to
update (once you know that they should link to translated content).

Exactly, I can't use @ref as I get a reference error, and I prefer to
do it this way. Once I progress with the translation I revise if
the translated nodes appear in named macros and I fix them.

IMHO what is provoking the warning is not that there is a @rusernamed
pointing to the notation manual, but that that particular node is
repeated, because I have other @rusernamed in the notation manual and
they are not causing any warnings.
